Pavers versus Stamped Concrete which is better?

We live in Colorado and are installing a patio and need advice on which application will last longer and which has less maintenance and which is the most cost effective?

Both are great solutions and both will support and sustain a typical patio for years. Pavers will adapt to changing foundations and substrates; so if terrain should move or subside, the pavers typically show very little signs of what lies beneath (If installed properly) Pavers are often the more costly solution especially when complex patterns and patio designs are introduced. A typical 400sq/ft patio can take 4-5 days from start to completion. Because pavers are pourus, they can host dirt and moldy spores in humid or wet areas. They may require a scrubbing or jet wash from time to time but rarely fade.

Stamped is a super alternative if your budget concious. Keep in mind this is simply a slab with a face lift. Good contractors with experience in these applications are key! Chose colors wisely since they are usually permanent. Again, should the foundation move or come under load, you will notice cracking. Direct sunlight and elements can wear on the sealant and color can fade after a few years, where pavers typically do not. In many cases, stamped solutions can be poured over existing pads, and can be a very smart investment. Cleaning and maintenance are fairly simple, though to keep the color and surfce tinting rich and shiny – you will need to renew the sealant from time to time.

Always try and look at the contractors previous installations when chosing either solution. Both work well for patios.

Hope this helps,
